Today is BAG day. I’m going to show you a few of my favorites.

The first: an orange leather bag that’s perfect for carrying a lesson file or computer.
Inside it has a zipper pocket for valuables, and a slot for your cell phone. Easy to reach!
I love the length of the straps (adjustable) and the fact that it fits so nice and snugly under
my arm. Easier to bear the weight. This is my newest purchase from C&A~ After eyeing it for a couple of weeks, it finally went on sale, 50% off, and I grabbed the last one for 17 euros~ A STEAL!

I’m modeling it here with my favorite “pucci-esque” vintage pants-skirt, which I found at a thrift store in Clearwater, Florida last year. Love love love!

Second: The black fabric beach bag is from Costa Rica. It is charming, and unusual (it looks like a skirt), and I knew I had to buy it when I saw it.

Third: The Briefcase for HER. This was a thrift store find in Seoul. A brand name item (ssamzie) familiar to a Korean but not to me, this bag was another steal (20,000won, or about $20) all leather, and in excellent condition. I love it because it’s good for the professional look at a meeting when you need to have your clipboard and portfolio on hand. (hmmm….how many of those events do I actually attend?) In actuality, I don’t use it often, but when I do, I always feel GOOD.

If you like any of these, please post a comment. I am happy to hear what you think! 🙂

“JUST LOOKING, THANKS!”

Since it doesn’t cost anything to look, I decided to take my camera instead of my wallet with me shopping yesterday. Here are a few of my finds. This first one is a “little black dress” at C&A. It’s a layered look, which I thought was interesting…and also rather flattering (79Euros). I’m modeling it here with a black sweater (on sale for 9 euros!) and I think it looks very nice. Note: I bought the sweater! 🙂

Hemlines, Legs, and Knees~ oh my!

Yesterday I bought a red skirt on sale. Red is one of my favorite colors. It’s a new length for me, however, and I don’t think I can get any shorter than this. Showing my knees has been a definite no-no for so many years. I wonder how I’m going to feel when I actually step out of the house with it on. When I checked it out with my conservative husband, he said, “What’s wrong with it?” The length makes me feel younger, less dowdy, more modern, and when I see women my age here in Belgium wearing this length, I always like it. So, here goes! Opinions, anyone?

My BIG SECRET!

My biggest beauty secret is that I shave every day! It's the least feminine thing about me, having a hairy chin, and I've taken great pains to keep it a secret All. These. Years. But this year I'm 62 and starting new, and one of my goals is to speak what's hidden. SO. Here I am ~ hairy chin or shaved, it's still ME :)                                                                                                 For years I used to pluck with tweezers, but that took so much TIME. Especially as the number of hairs seemed to keep multiplying. In college, I decided once to rebel and go "au naturel"~ and let it all grow (chin, legs, armpits). That lasted about a week. I just couldn't embrace those two furry patches on my face...so off they came, and I quietly rejoined the smooth is beautiful mainstream.                                                            I wasn't thrilled about tweezing, though, so it was a revelation when I saw a woman in a public bathroom one day doing the unthinkable: SHAVING! In 7 seconds, I now accomplish what once took an hour. The only problem? Doing it without being seen. Now that I've 'fessed up, maybe you'll catch me one of these days. At least I'm out of the closet now!

SKIN CARE ~ from the inside out!

Helloo! When I first started doing my Tea Talks (http://youtu.be/NzcDFOuBKK8 ) my lovely niece asked me how I take care of my skin. I have a simple program, that costs next to nothing. You may have noticed throughout this blog that I like to spend as little as possible on beauty care, clothes, and even haircuts (yes, I cut my own!)

I don’t necessarily trust that expensive creams and moisturizers work any better than the basic do it yourself, natural oils do. So, being a skeptic at heart, I just stick to what I know can’t do me no harm. I often just wash with water at night, and sometimes a special sulphur soap that the skin doctor sold my daughter for about $60 and I still have the bar after about 9 years (I don’t use it often). A little dab of vasoline on my lips before bed keeps them soft and prevents chapping, especially in the winter months.  I replace any oils on my face and neck in the morning with a mix of grapeseed and olive oils, about half and half. After showering, before drying off completely, I massage a bit of the mix all over my damp skin. It spreads easily, and if I would do it for my shoes, why not for myself? While visiting England this year on a school trip, I came across a body butter at a Charity Shop, and I use that now before going to bed just because it smells so good!                                                                                         The wrinkles are coming bit by bit…who is immune??? But I’m eternally grateful that I never drank or smoked because I know those two things have made such a BIG difference in the way I’ve aged. What goes in comes out in various ways, whether we like it or not. That being said, I better get back to counting calories on http://www.myfitnesspal.com/
